Confit Garlic
Share
Confit garlic is a traditional French preparation where garlic cloves are slowly cooked in oil to produce a soft, spreadable texture with a rich, buttery flavor. The method involves cooking the garlic in oil at a low temperature for an extended period of time, which helps to preserve it and create a flavor that is both mild and sweet. Confit garlic can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and used in a variety of dishes, including sauces, dips, spreads, and more.
Ingredients:
- 10 garlic cloves
- 1 cup olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Thyme, rosemary or bay leaves (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Peel the garlic cloves and place in a single layer in a small, oven-safe dish.
- Pour the olive oil over the garlic, making sure it covers the cloves completely.
- Add salt and herbs, if using.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the oven for 45-60 minutes or until the garlic is tender and golden.
- Remove from oven and let cool to room temperature. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 months.
- Use as desired in recipes or as a spread for bread.
